Faith Mix Magazine recently interviewed Jeff Easter from the award-winning gospel music group, Jeff and Sheri Easter. In a quest to glean wisdom from this seasoned professional musician, we asked Jeff if he had any advice he would give to up-and-coming musicians. Without hesitation, he willingly listed three helpful tips:

1. Don’t ever think you know everything. If you are a musician who can’t be taught, you’re not a true musician. There are always others out there who know something a little more than you do, even if you are the greatest musician. If you think you know the only way to do something, you’re wrong. A guitar can be played many different ways and there is always something to learn.

2. Every band is different. Our drummer, Kyle, played in a praise and worship band before joining Jeff and Sheri. He played in a shield so he could play as hard as he wanted. With our music, you just can’t play loud and hard. The vocals have to be heard. A good drummer sounds just as good playing soft as he does when he plays loud and knows when to play at what volume.

I asked several girlfriends this week to answer this question, "What is the one thing that you want to hear your man say to you?" Some women called me and this was the most popular answer... "Here’s the credit card – have a good day." ;)

  I have read their stories and shook my head and smiled. What were they thinking? Somehow, when a person is hard-hearted and in the middle of rebellion, common sense becomes an enigma. Of course, I have acted irrationally myself when I have been stubborn, angry, or hard-headed. However, since this article isn’t about the bad ideas I’ve had, which are numerous, let me get back to my first article in the series about bad ideas found in the Bible!
